Rachel Harrison .Fake Titel: Turquoise-Stained Altars for Burger Turner

07.09 until 05.01.2014

Since the 1990s she has been developing a highly recognizable idiom in which she incorporates objects (‘ready-mades’) into colourful, mostly abstract sculptures. They subversively confront visual languages from art history and pop culture with the notions of our present consumer society. S.M.A.K. is presenting works from Rachel Harrisons exhibition ‘The Help’ (2012), her ‘Sunset Series’ photography project (2000-2012) and a reconceived version of ‘Incidents of Travel in Yucatan’ (2011-2013). This last installation, previously presented as a vast, wall-like sculpture, is built using Harrison’s own and other artists’ exhibition materials. Her version for S.M.A.K. is more like a ruin, an adaptive exhibition device which, among other objects, also contains multiples by the French artist Marcel Duchamp. Furthermore the exhibition includes the artist’s selection from the museum collection. The exhibition is a co-production with kestnergesellschaft, Hanover. Special thanks to Greene Naftali, New York, for their generous support. EXPO GUIDE Download expo guide
