Kris Martin's works often raise questions about transience, identity, life and death. By making subtle alterations to objects that are often universally recognizable, he creates space for reflection and new interpretations. Trinity I (2009) for example is a large arrival and departure board as they used to exist in train stations and airports. Martin has removed all the letters and numbers, and left the flaps black. They move in an unpredictable rhythm, without announcing places, times or destinations. The characteristic sound is all what is left, a nostalgic reminder of faraway destinations. By announcing nothing, the work invites us to reflect on the existential question where we come from and where we will go.
