You are warmly invited to the press conference of the exhibition Motel Corona, Resilience Acquisitions by the Flemish Community on Friday 26 May 2023 at 11:00. You can visit the exhibition in the presence of the Ghent alderman of culture Sami Souguir, artistic director Philippe Van Cauteren and curator Iris Paschalidis.
S.MA.K. shows new works of art that entered the museum collection via the Flemish Community after the worldwide pandemic.
Museums and cultural venues were closed, projects were suspended and the financial impact was huge. To compensate for this loss, the Flemish Community released 3.75 million euros in 2021 for the purchase of artworks by active contemporary artists. This also gave a huge boost to the region’s contemporary art collection.
