5.50 I 3.10, Two Pipes

NL – Peter Downsbrough is bekend voor zijn talrijke versies van ‘Two Pipes’ die hij in de vroege jaren ‘70 in private en publieke buitenruimtes installeerde. Elke versie bestaat uit twee metalen buizen van verschillende lengte, loodrecht en naast elkaar in de grond geplaatst. Enerzijds herdefinieert Downsbrough met deze ingreep de oorspronkelijke ruimte. Anderzijds reflecteert de kunstenaar over in welke mate we al dan niet aandacht hebben voor voorwerpen in stedelijke en landschappelijke omgevingen. Van de variaties van ‘Two Pipes’ nam de kunstenaar foto’s die hij verwerkte in postkaartensets en boeken.

ENG – Peter Downsbrough is known for his numerous versions of ‘Two Pipes’, which he installed in private and outdoor public spaces in the early seventies. Each version consists of two metal tubes of different lengths, perpendicular and positioned in the ground next to each other. In one respect, Downsbrough with this intervention redefines the original space. On the other hand, the artist reflects on the extent to which, if at all, we are concerned with objects in urban and rural settings. The artist took photos of the variations of ‘Two Pipes’, which he incorporated into books and sets of postcards.

FR - Peter Downsbrough est connu pour ses nombreuses versions de ‘Two Pipes’ qu’il installa dans des espaces extérieurs privés et publics au début des années ’70. Chaque version se compose de deux tuyaux métalliques de différentes longueurs, plantées perpendiculairement et côte à côte dans le sol. D’une part, Downsbrough redéfinit l’espace originel avec cette intervention. D’autre part, l’artiste réfléchit à notre manière de prêter ou non attention aux objets dans des environnements urbains et ruraux. L’artiste a pris des photos des variantes de ‘Two Pipes’ qu’il a transformées en sets de cartes postales et en livres.
