Massimo Bartolini Book presentation Hagoromo

Massimo Bartolini's book Hagoromo will be presented on Sunday 12 March 2023. The artist will be in conversation with curator and art critic Luca Cerizza. Hagoromo outlines the artistic life of Massimo Bartolini from 1989 to 2022 and is the largest publication ever dedicated to the famous Italian artist.

Commissioned and coordinated by Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato, edited by Luca Cerizza and Cristiana Perrella, and published by NERO, Hagoromo. Massimo Bartolini is supported by the Italian Council (10th edition, 2021), a program to promote Italian contemporary art in the world by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

Lecture by Clarrie Wallis on the work of Rose Wylie

In 2013 Clarrie Wallis curated the first significant institutional exhibition of Rose Wylie in Britain at Tate, which preceded worldwide solo presentations. The exhibition was followed by Wallis’ publication of the painter’s first monograph in 2018, outlining some of the key aspects of her prolific oeuvre. In conjunction with the exhibition picky people notice…, in S.M.A.K., Wallis will share her insights on Wylie’s remarkable career in relation to the paintings and drawings on display.

Healing The Museum is the first mid-career retrospective dedicated to Grace Ndiritu’s diverse artistic practice. Performance, film, social actions, publications, textile work and research into museum collections are all part of this multi-layered exhibition project, in which she argues for the re-energization and ethicalization of the museum space and, by extension, the whole society.

S.M.A.K. is honoured to be the first museum in Belgium to present a solo exhibition of internationally renowned artist Haegue Yang. The intriguing and refined approaches of Haegue Yang encompass large-scale sculptures and installations as well as works on paper, photography, video, sound and text. Her works are also distinguished by its formal agility and its capacity to convey various ideas, histories, perceptions and emotions. The central hall is occupied by seventeen new sculptural units titled Warrior Believer LoverVersion Sonic (2023).
