Interminável

NL – ‘Interminável’ is een ruimtevullende installatie. De titel is Portugees voor oneindig. Dit werk heeft Artur Barrio gerealiseerd voor de tentoonstelling ‘Barrio-Beuys’ in 2005 in S.M.A.K., een dialoog tussen het werk van Artur Barrio en Joseph Beuys. ‘Interminável’ is door het S.M.A.K. aangekocht als efemere installatie, een werk dat enkel door de kunstenaar zelf op een moment gerealiseerd kan worden, en bijgevolg eindigt bij het overlijden van de kunstenaar. De installatie is een situatie, een moment dat in beleving de werkelijkheid en de kunst dichter samenbrengt. In deze tentoonstelling is het de derde keer dat Artur Barrio ‘Interminável’ realiseert. De ruimte wordt een poëtisch geladen krocht met de gebruikelijke elementen die het universum van Barrio kenmerken. Barrio verplaatst met zijn werk de notie van het kunstwerk naar iets wat niet te bewaren of te verhandelen valt, maar de aandacht vestigt op het kunstenaar zijn als houding.

ENG – ‘Interminável’ is an installation that fills the space. The title is Portuguese for interminable. This work was realised by Artur Barrio for the exhibition ‘Barrio-Beuys’ in S.M.A.K. (2005), a dialogue between the work of Artur Barrio and Joseph Beuys. ‘Interminável’ was purchased by S.M.A.K. as an ephemeral installation, a work that can only be realised by the artist himself at a given moment, and which cannot be continued after his death. The installation is a situation, a moment that is experienced as bringing reality and art closer together. This exhibition is the third time that Artur Barrio has realised ‘Interminável’. The space becomes a poetically charged vault that contains all the usual elements that characterise Barrio’s universe. With his work, Barrio moves the notion of the artwork to something that cannot be saved or traded, while drawing attention to being an artist as an attitude.

FR - ‘Interminável’ est une installation qui remplit l’espace. Le titre signifie infini en portugais. Artur Barrio a réalisé cette œuvre pour l’exposition ‘Barrio-Beuys’ organisée au S.M.A.K. en 2005, dialogue entre l’œuvre d’Artur Barrio et celle de Joseph Beuys. Le S.M.A.K. a acquis ‘Interminável’ comme installation éphémère, une œuvre qui ne peut être réalisée à un moment déterminé que par l’artiste en personne et qui parconséquent prend fin avec le décès de l’artiste. L’installationest une situation, un moment qui rapproche la réalité et l’artdans le vécu. C’est la troisième fois qu’Artur Barrio réalise‘Interminável’ dans le cadre de cette exposition. L’espacedevient une force à charge poétique comprenant les élémentshabituels caractéristiques de l’univers de Barrio. Par sonœuvre, Barrio déplace la notion d’œuvre d’art vers quelque chose qu’il ne faut pas conserver ou commercialiser, mais il attire l’attention sur l’attitude consistant à être artiste.
