Living Is An Act I Did Not Premeditate

NL – Deze installatie bestaat uit niet meer dan een banaal koperen voorwerp. Het is een deurklink die bevestigd kan worden op een deur naar keuze in de tentoonstellingsruimte. Wanneer ze zo wordt gepresenteerd, heeft de klink iets weg van een minimalistische sculptuur. De manier waarop ze wordt tentoongesteld creërt verwarring en botst met de manier waarop we gewend zijn naar kunst te kijken. Deze sculptuur is een schoolvoorbeeld van Dedobbeleers experimentele, gelaagde benadering van beeldhouwkunst. Sculpturen kunnen daarbij voorwerpen worden door de specifieke plaats die de kunstenaar hen in de ruimte geeft, en vice versa. De absurde titel lijkt naar iets compleet anders te verwijzen en versterkt het gevoel van verwarring dat het werk oproept.

ENG – This installation consists of nothing more than an ordinary copper object. It is a door handle that can be fitted to a door of one’s choice in the exhibition room. When presented in this way, the handle seems like a minimalist sculpture. The way it is exhibited causes confusion and clashes with the way we are accustomed to looking at art. This sculpture is a perfect example of Dedobbeleer’s experimental, multi-layered approach to sculpture. Sculptures can be turned into objects by the specific place the artist gives them in the space, and vice versa. The absurd title appears to refer to something completely different and emphasises the sense of confusion the work arouses.

FR - Cette installation se compose d’un simple et banal objet en cuivre. Il s’agit d’une poignée de porte qui peut se fixer sur une porte au choix dans l’espace de l’exposition. Lorsqu’elle est présentée ainsi, la poignée affiche une ressemblance avec une sculpture minimaliste. La façon dont elle est présentée crée la confusion et s’oppose à notre manière habituelle de regarder l’art. Cette sculpture est un exemple classique de l’approche expérimentale et hiérarchisée de la sculpture par Dedobbeleer. Les sculptures peuvent ainsi devenir des objets par la place spécifique que l’artiste leur donne dans l’espace et inversement. Le titre absurde semble se référer à quelque chose de totalement différent et renforce le sentiment de confusion que suscite l’oeuvre.
