Zwiefall [2001 / 2015]

NL – ‘Zwiefall [2001 / 2015]’ (2019) laat zich lezen als een verkenning van dimensies in tijd en ruimte, als een exploratie van teken- en schilderkunst, als een omarming van tijd en traagheid, aan- en afwezigheid. Beide kunstenaars namen afstand van hun individuele signatuur om ze te laten opgaan in een door de twee kunstenaars gesigneerd en samengesteld werk. Eind 2019 vond in Emergent in Veurne de dubbeltentoonstelling ‘Zwiefall’ plaats, die uitging van een dialoog tussen Ante Timmermans en Charl van Ark. Al jaren waren de kunstenaars met elkaar in gesprek. Dialoog en wederzijds respect waren dan ook de ingrediënten van die tentoonstelling. Beide kunstenaars waren in het bijzonder tevreden over het samenbrengen van twee werken, in die mate zelfs dat ze beide werken na afloop van de tentoonstelling als een onafscheidelijk geheel beschouwden. Tegelijk besloten ze ook om dit werk samen aan S.M.A.K. te schenken.

ENG – ‘Zwiefall [2001 / 2015]’ (2019) can be read as an exploration of dimensions in time and space, as an investigation of drawing and painting, as the embrace of time and slowness, presence and absence. Both artists took a distance from their individual signature and allowed it to be subsumed into a merged work, signed by the two artists. In late 2019, the joint exhibition ‘Zwiefall’ was staged at Emergent in Veurne. It was based on a dialogue between Ante Timmermans and Charl van Ark. The two artists had been in conversation with one another for many years. Discussion and mutual respect were therefore also the ingredients for that exhibition. Both artists were exceptionally pleased with the bringing together of two artworks, to the extent that once the exhibition ended, they regarded them as a single, inextricably linked entity. At the same time, the two artists decided to donate the work to S.M.A.K.

FR – ‘Zwiefall [2001 / 2015]’ (2019) se lit comme une exploration des dimensions temps et espace, du dessin et de la peinture, du temps et de la lenteur, de la présence et de l’absence. Les deux artistes renonçaient à leur signature individuelle et l'ont laissée se fondre dans une œuvre composée portant leur double signature. Fin 2019, la galerie Emergent à Furnes a accueilli la double exposition ‘Zwiefall’, dont le point de départ était un dialogue entre Ante Timmermans et Charl van Ark. Depuis des années, les échanges entre les deux artistes avaient été fréquents. Le dialogue et le respect mutuel ont dès lors été les ingrédients de cette exposition. Les deux artistes ont été tellement enchantés par la combination de deux de leurs œuvres qu’ils ont considéré qu’elles formaient désormais un tout indissociable. Ils ont également décidé d’offrir cet œuvre commune au S.M.A.K.
