How are art and automatism connected?
The lecture takes its starting point in the exhibition NTAa'25: Intelligence, it's automatic in the Zebrastraat and explores how art and automatism have been interconnected throughout history. In doing so, it offers a new perspective on the questions and challenges facing contemporary art today.
Biography Thierry Dufrêne
Thierry Dufrêne is a French art historian, writer, essayist, art critic, curator and professor of art history at the Université Paris Nanterre. Dufrêne specialises in contemporary sculpture and has published extensively on artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Piotr Kowalski and Jannis Kounellis. From 2007 to 2013, he was deputy director of the Institut national d'histoire de l'art (INHA). Since 2004, he has been scientific secretary of the Comité international d'histoire de l'art (CIHA). He has curated more than twenty-five exhibitions, including major exhibitions at the Grand Palais and the Centre Pompidou.
