NL – In de vroege jaren ‘90 keerde Morellet terug naar het tweedimensionale. In ‘2 carrés’ verschijnen kleur en licht als een niet-deelbare eenheid. De ene zijde van het vierkant licht blauw op en loopt door in het met blauwe acrylverf geschilderde tracé van de andere zijde. Dit samengestelde vierkant werd samengebracht op een paneel of een tweede geroteerd vierkant dat als het ware opgaat in de achterliggende muur. Door de lamp en het lichtschijnsel te combineren met een geschilderd deel verenigde Morellet zijn schilderkunstige en sculpturale ambities en laadde hij dit werk op met een absolute dimensie.
ENG – In the early 1990s Morellet returned to two-dimensional artwork. In '2 carrés', colour and light appear as an inseparable unit. One side of the square is lit with a line of blue light; the line continues to the other side along a line marked out with blue acrylic paint. This composite square was put together on a panel or, expressing it in a different way: a second rotated square merges, as it were, into the wall behind. By combining the lamp and the light with a painted portion, Morellet united his painterly and sculptural ambitions and primed this work with an absolute dimension.
FR - Au début des années ’90, Morellet revint vers le bi-dimensionnel. Dans ‘2 carrés’, la couleur et la lumière apparaissent comme une seule unité non-divisible. Un côté du carré s’illumine en bleu et continue en tracé peint en acrylique bleu de l’autre côté. Ce carré composé a été réuni sur un panneau – ou sur un deuxième carré pivotant – qui se confond, pour ainsi dire, avec le mur sous-jacent. En combinant la lampe et la lueur avec une partie peinte, Morellet a réuni ses ambitions picturales et sculpturales et a donné à cette oeuvre une connotation de dimension absolue.
