NL - ‘I Always Thought Anselmo’s Invisible (1971) Should be Installed Against a Window’ bestaat uit een diaprojectie op de wand en is gebaseerd op de installatie ‘Invisible’ uit 1971 van de Italiaanse arte povera kunstenaar Giovanni Anselmo. Met dit werk gaf de kunstenaar de grens aan tussen de onzichtbare – dynamische – wereld van energie en de zichtbare wereld van ‘arme’ – want statische – materialen. Met een projector en één dia deed Anselmo het woord ‘visibile’ verschijnen in de ruimte. Dit woord, waaruit het hele kunstwerk bestaat, blijft onzichtbaar tot een voorwerp of persoon uit de materiële wereld zich in de lichtbundel van de projector begeeft. Dan verschijnt het woord ‘visibile’ uit het niets als een leesbaar ding op het lichaam of voorwerp dat zijn pad kruist. In het werk van Mario Garcia Torres zie je hoe Anselmo’s werk zichtbaar wordt op de broekspijp van een persoon die voorbij de diaprojector loopt. De scène speelt zich af in een hedendaags interieur. De projector is gericht op een raam.
ENG - ‘I Always Thought Anselmo’s Invisible (1971) Should be Installed Against a Window’ consists of a slide show on the wall and is based on the 1971 installation ‘Invisible’ by the Italian arte povera artist Giovanni Anselmo. In this work, Anselmo indicated the boundary between the invisible – dynamic – world of energy and the visible world of materials that are ‘poor’ – because they are static. With a projector and just one slide, Anselmo made the word ‘visibile’ appear in the room. This word, which makes up the whole artwork, remains invisible until an object or person from the material world passes through the beam of light from the projector. Then the word ‘visibile’ appears out of nowhere like a readable thing on the body or object that crosses its path. In Mario Garcia Torres’ work you see how Anselmo’s work becomes visible on the trouser-leg of a person who walks past the projector. The scene is set in a contemporary interior. The projector beam is focused on a window.
FR - ‘I Always Thought Anselmo’s Invisible (1971) Should be Installed Against a Window’ se compose d’une projection de dias sur la paroi et est basée sur l’installation ‘Invisible’ de 1971 de l’artiste italien d’arte povera Giovanni Anselmo. Avec cette œuvre, l’artiste a montré la limite entre le monde invisible – dynamique – de l’énergie et le monde visible des matériaux ‘pauvres’ – parce que statiques. A l’aide d’un projecteur et d’une seule dia, Anselmo faisait apparaître le mot ‘visibile’ dans l’espace. Ce mot, qui compose toute l’œuvre, reste invisible jusqu’à ce qu’un objet ou une personne du monde matériel se trouve dans le faisceau lumineux du projecteur. Puis, le mot ‘visibile’ sort du néant comme une chose lisible sur le corps ou l’objet qui croise son chemin. Dans l’œuvre de Mario Garcia Torres, on voit comment l’œuvre d’Anselmo devient visible sur la jambe de pantalon d’une personne qui passe le long du projecteur. La scène se déroule dans un intérieur contemporain. Le projecteur est dirigé sur une fenêtre.
