Plastic Bags II

NL – In zijn installaties gebruikt Tayou vaak wegwerpproducten, zoals de plastic zakjes in dit videowerk. Verfrommeld en achtergelaten, een universeel wegwerpmateriaal, figureren ze in een poëtische choreografie in een landschap. Een hoop plastic zakken palmt ook de tentoonstellingsruimte in en wordt door ventilatoren in beweging gebracht. De kunstenaar vergelijkt zichzelf graag met een plastic zakje: ‘Ik ben ook vol en leeg tegelijk. In permanente overgang, bewegend in verschillende richtingen. Een plastic zakje is een banaal, alledaags item dat wereldwijd is gekend, dat grenzen overschrijdt en waarvan het nut en het nutteloze een universele kwaliteit hebben’.

ENG – In his installations, Tayou often uses disposable products such as the plastic bags in this video work. Crumpled and abandoned, this universal disposable material figures in a poetic choreography set in a landscape. A pile of plastic bags also occupies the exhibition room and is set in motion by electric fans. The artist likes to compare himself to a plastic bag: “I too am simultaneously full and empty. In constant transition, moving in several directions. A plastic bag is a banal everyday item that is familiar all over the world, crosses boundaries and has a usefulness and a uselessness that are universal”.

FR - Dans ses installations, Tayou utilise souvent des produits jetables, comme les sacs en plastique dans cette vidéo. Froissés et abandonnés, matériel jetable universel, ils figurent dans une chorégraphie poétique au sein d’un paysage. Un tas de sacs en plastique s’approprie également l’espace de l’exposition et sont mis en mouvement à l’aide de ventilateurs. L’artiste aime se comparer à un sac en plastique: ‘Je suis aussi plein et vide à la fois. En transition permanente, bougeant dans différentes directions. Un sac en plastique est un objet banal, de tous les jours connu dans le monde entier, qui dépasse les frontières et dont l’utile et l’inutile ont une qualité universelle.’
