NL - ‘Mapping the Ear’ is een schilderij van een reusachtig oor dat zich spitst om de geluiden van de wereld op te vangen. Het is een kritisch motief in het oeuvre van Anna Boghiguian. “Het Oor luistert. Het Oor is een lob van ons Brein, maar het is een andere lob die de informatie die het Oor ontving, ontleedt en naar de Waarheid ervan zoekt, in de veronderstelling dat wat wordt ontvangen vals is of een illusie”, beweerde ze ooit. De kunstenaar maakt een onderscheid tussen het ‘metafysische oor’, waarmee we onze innerlijke stem horen, en het ‘fysische oor’, dat ons in staat stelt om te communiceren. Deze tweedeling is geïnspireerd op de theorieën van Carl Gustav Jung, die beweerde dat mensen van hun omgeving gebruik maken om hun innerlijke wereld en onderbewustzijn beter te leren begrijpen. Voor Boghiguian heeft het oor daarnaast een persoonlijke betekenis: ze is hardhorig en daarom afhankelijk van andere signalen om informatie te capteren.

‘Mapping the Ear’ is a painting of a giant ear that is straining to capture the sounds of the world. It is a critical motif in the oeuvre of Anna Boghiguian. “The Ear listens, the Ear is one lobe of the Brain, but another lobe dissects the information received by the ear, and searches for the Truth, assuming that what is received is false or an illusion,” she once claimed. The artist distinguishes between the ‘metaphysical ear’, with which we hear our inner voice, and the ‘physical ear’, which enables us to communicate. This dichotomy is inspired by the theories of Carl Gustav Jung, who claimed that people use their environment to better understand their inner world and subconscious. For Boghiguian, the ear also has a personal meaning: she is hard of hearing and therefore dependent on different kinds of signals to capture information.

L'Oreille est un lobe de notre Cerveau, mais c'est un autre lobe qui dissèque l'information reçue par l'Oreille et tente de trouver sa Vérité, en supposant que ce qui a été reçu au départ est faux ou une illusion”, a-t-elle un jour affirmé. L'artiste fait la distinction entre ‘l'oreille métaphysique’, qui nous permet d’entendre notre voix intérieure, et ‘l'oreille physique’, qui nous permet de communiquer. Cette dichotomie s'inspire des théories de Carl Gustav Jung, qui affirmait que les gens se servent de leur environnement pour mieux comprendre leur monde intérieur et leur subconscient. Pour Boghiguian, l'oreille a également une signification personnelle: elle est malentendante et dépend donc d'autres signaux pour capter les informations.
