You are warmly invited to discover N.Dash’s new exhibition at S.M.A.K., entitled earth, from Saturday 25 June 2021 onwards.
At the center of N. Dash’s (b. 1980, Miami; lives and works in New York and New Mexico) work is a commitment to the energy of transformation, movement, and care. In N. Dash’s paintings, materials such as earth, paint, plastic bottles, string, agricultural netting, strips of Styrofoam, cast-off cardboard, and jute, are incorporated into complex, often multi-panel compositions that draw from the languages and methods of sculpture, photography, and printmaking. With a notable economy of means, N. Dash’s work expresses the tension between industrially produced goods and naturally occurring substances in an ecological vision that honors the land and its unseen energies.
With the generous support of Galerie Mehdi Chouakri, Berlin; Casey Kaplan Gallery, New York; Zeno X Gallery, Antwerp.
From that day on, you can also visit the new exhibition with Marc De Cock's personal choice from the Matthys-Colle and S.M.A.K. collections. Between 1979 and 1995 De Cock was chairman of the Museum of Contemporary Art Association, the predecessor of the current Friends of S.M.A.K.
