Vegetable Construct

NL – ‘Vegetable Construct’ is een muurcompositie die doet denken aan een notenbalk of irrigatiesysteem. Ze bestaat uit parallel lopende buisjes waarop rechthoekige bordjes zijn aangebracht met prints van groenten die verwijzen naar de werkzaamheden van de kunstenaar in zijn moestuin in Jeruzalem. Tegelijk zijn de prints een metafoor voor de vreemde oorsprong van heel wat groenten die in het Westen dagelijks worden gegeten. Met ‘Vegetable Construct’ wil Goldstein het idee van culturele oorsprong in het algemeen en artistieke originaliteit in het bijzonder ter discussie stellen.

ENG – ‘Vegetable Construct’ is a wall-mounted composition that is reminiscent of a musical stave or irrigation system. It consists of parallel tubes to which rectangular boards have been attached. These contain prints of vegetables that allude to the activities of the artist in his vegetable garden in Jerusalem. At the same time, the prints are a metaphor for the foreign origin of many of the vegetables that are eaten on a daily basis in the West. With ‘Vegetable Construct’, Goldstein wants to call into question the idea of cultural origin in general, and artistic originality in particular.

FR - ‘Vegetable Construct’ est une composition murale qui rappelle une portée de notes ou un système d’irrigation. Elle est constituée de tubes parallèles sur lesquels sont placés des panneaux rectangulaires avec des impressions de légumes, faisant référence aux travaux de l'artiste dans son potager à Jérusalem. En même temps, les impressions sont une métaphore de l’origine étrangère de nombreux légumes consommés quotidiennement en Occident. Avec ‘Vegetable Construct’, Goldstein veut soumettre à la discussion l'idée de l’origine culturelle en général et l'originalité artistique en particulier.
