The Siddhartha Arts Foundation has appointed Philippe Van Cauteren, artistic director of S.M.A.K., to be the curator of the Kathmandu Triennale.

In 2009 and 2012, The Siddhartha Arts Foundation organised the Kathmandu International Arts Festival, the forerunner of the Kathmandu Triennale. This first triennale marks a new development in the foundation’s support for contemporary art in Kathmandu.

Taking My City, My Studio / My City, My Life as a title, Van Cauteren is compiling an exhibition with more than 50 artists from about 25 countries. The Belgium-born Françis Alÿs is the exhibition’s ‘patron artist’.

In addition to the exhibition, the Kathmandu Triennale is also a platform for exchanges, talks, workshops and master-classes. The Triennale is intended to provide the leverage for the cultural development of the scintillating city of Kathmandu.
