Spreekuur #3: (Youth) culture unfiltered

S.M.A.K. Moves presents 'Spreekuur' (Consultation Hour): a series of free moments to zoom in on one stimulating theme together. We invite a creator, thinker or curious mind, ask questions, share thoughts and follow where the conversation takes us.

Culture is everywhere. But does it feel that way to young people? Who decides what culture is, and above all: who feels welcome? During this consultation session, young people and youth workers will discuss the role of cultural centres today. They’ll talk about barriers and opportunities. About recognition, ownership and the space to be yourself.

We’ll listen to experiences shared by youth workers and to the voices of young people themselves. What works, what causes friction, and what could be done differently? How do we ensure that culture isn’t a closed world, but a place where young people help shape it, have a say in decisions and, above all, recognise themselves?

We’ll also open the mic to anyone who wants to be heard. During an open mic session, young people will take to the stage for slam poetry and rap – raw, personal and unfiltered.

No set answers, just an open conversation. Unfiltered. And all of this is recorded in a podcast, so that the stories and insights can be heard long after the event.
