Around 20 young people from the Centre for Learning to Work (CLW) in Ghent made a film about their future against the backdrop of 't Kuipke.

Under the title “Highlights for a future – There Is No Planet B”, the pupils are working on their own science fiction film. 't Kuipke is being used as a film set and the film is half fiction, half documentary. The question of how today's young people view the future is more relevant than ever, given the weekly climate marches. With this artistic project, we want to work with them to gain an insight into their vision of the future.

Inspired by Urs Pfannenmüller's 1995 work “Gelaagde stad” (Layered City), the pupils are creating a miniature version of their future city with the main question being: what does their future city look like from their perspective? They are exploring various themes and asking questions about their own vision of the future. In addition to the fiction, we interview the young people about their expectations for the future through themes such as climate, education, sexuality, family, music and media.

The intention is for the pupils themselves to write the script, play the roles and make the props, such as models, space shuttles, props and costumes. They will be supervised by professionals such as Louis van der Waal* and Charlien Andriaenssens**. Filming will take place from 20 to 24 May 2019 in 't Kuipke. Editing is expected to be completed by summer 2019.

This project is being run in collaboration with the Centrum Leren Werken (Centre for Learning to Work) in Ghent, with the support of ENGIE.
