Meet Kobe Wens, the artist behind There is no Planet B.

Young people have expectations for the future and are collaborating with a number of artists to create a short science fiction film.

As part of the exhibition “Highlights for a Future” at S.M.A.K. in Ghent (summer 2019), forty students from the “Centrum Leren en Werken Gent” (Ghent Centre for Learning and Working) worked on their vision of the future. Inspired by Urs Pfannenmüller's artwork “Gelaagde Stad” (Layered City, 1995), on display in “Highlights for a Future”, the young people spent four days working with a number of artists to shoot a low-budget science fiction film in 't Kuipke. The pupils built a miniature version of the city of the future, which appears as a backdrop in the film. Together with artists Kobe Wens, Louis van der Waal, Jan Van Nuenen and Charlien Adriaenssens, they also made costumes and acted out scenes they had devised themselves. In addition, we interviewed the young people about their expectations for the future in terms of climate, education, sexuality, family, music and media.
