At the Festival, the S.M.A.K. and Amsab-ISG bring together two special collections of drawings.
Last year, S.M.A.K. organised a series of drawing workshops in various reception centres for newly arrived refugees in Belgium. Both adults and children were invited to draw freely. A small selection of the drawings that were created in these workshops were eventually collected in the book 'From Here to There'. The proceeds of this book will go entirely to the Red Cross-Flanders, which will use them to finance artistic workshops in the camps. You can buy the book at Vooruit and at the S.M.A.K. desk during the festival.
Amsab-ISG houses a unique collection of children's drawings from the Spanish Civil War. Niños de la guerra who stayed in Barcelona after being evacuated from Madrid and Valencia, among other places. The pencil drawings and colour fields are almost 80 years old, but they hardly lose any of their clarity. Almost all of the drawings come from the archive of the well-known socialist politician Camille Huysmans (1871-1968). How they came to him is less clear.Practical info
