Marcel Broodthaers shows it like no other, visual art and poetry often go hand in hand. From Thursday 27 January to Tuesday 2 February it is Poetry Week, and we will not let that pass unnoticed.
For the past year, several poets have visited the current exhibition in our museum, to engage in poetic dialogue with the works on display. The result appears every two months in the Poëziekrant (Poetry Paper). In the first issue, Mustafa Kör lets his pen flow over Panamarenko's 'Feltra', which is currently on display in POPART From Warhol to Panamarenko.
Especially for Poetry Week, you can call the answering machine of S.M.A.K. Call +32 (0)9 323 60 00, let yourself be guided by the menu and listen to a poem (in Dutch). 5 poets, slam poets and spoken word artists were inspired by our collection.
Our collection also includes several artists who highlight the link between poetry and the visual arts. Mekhitar Garabedian is a striking example of this. Language, naming, but also identity and origin, are all themes that are central to Garabedian's oeuvre.
