Arman, or Armand Fernandez in full, is one of the most important artists of nouveau réalisme, a variant of the pop art that developed in France. He began his career as an abstract painter but in around 1958, everyday objects became the central subject of his art. Arman emerged as an artist in Paris and from 1961 also lived and worked part-time in New York.
