Evelyne Axell became familiar with British and American pop art at close quarters during the trips that she took with her husband, the documentary maker Jean Antoine. She was so impressed that in the early 60s, she swapped her promising career as a TV presenter and actor for life as an artist. In her studio, she was given lessons by René Magritte, and emerged as one of the big names of European pop art. In 1972, a car accident brought her career to an abrupt end.
