Jef Verheyen was born with a visual impairment. The monochromes he painted have their importance not so much in the use of colour as in the capturing of colour and light. This as an attempt to escape from the gloom of everyday life and as a way to unwind. Verheyen participated in exhibitions by the Zero group, which prioritised the importance of light, but unfortunately never received the international recognition he deserved.
