Braeckman installatie smak1

Dirk Braeckman offers a contemporary interpretation of the Great War in a series of photos first shown in Namur in autumn 2013.

For the commemoration of the First World War he is presenting a work that he made in 1986. It consists of prints from old negatives by an unknown photographer, probably a soldier in the trenches, shown in a specially made display case. In this tribute to an anonymous photographer, Braeckman links the power of the eye-witness to his view as a contemporary artist. In this work one recognises Braeckman’s characteristic pictorial approach, that of a painter using the medium of photography. In association with the Service de la Culture de la Province de Namur.
