Since 2021 S.M.A.K. has been managing part of the works of art of the Matthys-Colle Foundation, including the painting 'Great American Nude #45' (1963) by the American pop artist Tom Wesselmann. This work was purchased by the Flemish Community and immediately marked the start of this unique public-private partnership. This acquisition was also accompanied by a long-term loan of 39 other works by internationally renowned artists such as Bruce Nauman, Gilbert & George, Daniel Buren, Thomas Schütte, Cy Twombly and Tom Wesellmann from this prestigious collection. Twice a year, a selection is made from this collection and presented to the public.
The works on display now were carefully chosen by Marc De Cock, former chairman of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent.
