At the end of 2008 Michel François had received carte blanche from the S.M.A.K. to determine the exhibition programme in two galleries for more than a year.
François chose two identical exhibition rooms and named his project Faux Jumeaux (false twins). He asked 15 people to each select two works of art which, although very similar with regard to form or material, were created independently. Which similarities or differences between the two works come to light when ‘mirrored’ in the two identical galleries?
In September 2009 Rainier Lericolais presented 3 "Faux Jumeaux", with ‘movement’ or the ‘fixation’ of movement as the central theme. In the first exhibition room we saw Andy Warhol's Piss Painting and Pierre Bismuth’s Following The Right Hand of Doris Day In Young Man With a Horn (2008) – a photographic work in which the artist literally charts the movement of Doris Day's hand. The third work, Tentative de moulage d'eau (2007), was by Rainier Lericolais himself. In the second exhibition room was a work in bronze by Maxime Rossi, True spirit, effervescence (2002), Helen Chadwick's Piss Flowers (1992-2006) and a copy of a drawing by Etienne Jules Maray.
