The Friends of the S.M.A.K. Prize is a national, biennial competition for artists who have recently graduated from a Belgian art school. With this initiative, S.M.A.K. and its friends association, the Friends of S.M.A.K., recognise the importance and relevance of a new generation of artists. Both partners are committed to offering opportunities to emerging talent that doesn’t always find an easy path to the professional art world.
Following the previous edition, the competition will run over two consecutive years. The competition will run in 2022 and entries will be assessed by an international panel. The finalists’ work will be presented in an exhibition the following year. The extra time will create a more enriching experience and allow the artists to collaborate closely with the museum on the group exhibition. Finally, a winner is chosen.
