S M A K Bookshop Jan Op De Kamp 281129

This year no Book Fair but '9000 books'. Publishers Borgerhoff & Lamberigts, the Ghent bookshops, De Krook and S.M.A.K. join forces and organise a fresh and headstrong book festival in Ghent with lectures, workshops and signing sessions. In S.M.A.K. two activities take place:

Book Presentation EXIT by Kris Martin

Over the past twenty years, Kris Martin has mainly shown his work abroad. In S.M.A.K. you can for the first time get to know his expressive oeuvre in his own country.

On the occasion of the exhibition 'EXIT' by Kris Martin, Borgerhoff & Lamberigts published the richly illustrated book 'EXIT'. The publication includes an interview with the artist and an explanatory text by S.M.A.K. director Philippe Van Cauteren. The design was done by the renowned Luc Derycke.

The book will be presented in S.M.A.K. on Saturday 3 October. Luc Derycke will talk to Kris Martin. Afterwards you can have your copy signed by the artist.

Practical information:

  • Saturday 3 October at 3 pm.
  • The book presentation is free of charge. Registration is necessary via reservation@smak.be.
  • If you want to visit the museum afterwards, book your ticket here.

Art Matinee De Kleine Catalogus (The Little Catalogue)

In March 2020 S.M.A.K. published the first Little Catalogue of the S.M.A.K. collection containing 150 works from the collection in words and images tailored to the young museum visitor. In 2021, on the basis of this catalogue, an exhibition is planned which, just like the book, will be realised in collaboration with a young audience. How do young people today look at works of art that are older than themselves? What do the works have to tell them today?

Discover with your family some of the works of art that will be on display in the spring of 2021, together with the authors Filip Van de Velde and Aline Van Nereaux. Like Alechinsky, create a poem with 'clouds in trousers', discover how Ann Veronica Janssens makes the sea glitter or how René Heyvaert and Richard Long make art with nature. Afterwards, take your self-made works home with you.

Practical information:

  • Sunday 4 October from 2 pm to 4 pm.
  • For families with children between 6 and 12 years old.
  • The Art Matinee is free of charge. Registration is necessary via reservation@smak.be.
  • If you want to visit the museum afterwards, book your ticket this way.
