21 September was World Alzheimer’s Day 2016. Recently, S.M.A.K. introduced a whole range of activities for people with dementia and their carers.

In the spring of 2016, S.M.A.K. teamed up with Bie Hinnekint’s The Courage To Grow Old under the title Demo Memo. This project is intended to make the museum more accessible for people with dementia and their carers, and aims to take a different, positive view of people suffering from dementia and their changing consciousness.

In regular workshops the visitors accompany Bie on a tour of an exhibition. Their spontaneous reactions to the work on display are combined into a poem at the end of the tour. A special encounter with contemporary works of art, the museum and each other.

The Courage to Grow Old will soon be back at S.M.A.K. with new workshops. Check our website for more info and dates.
