In May 2018, poet Inge Braeckman spent a week as a volunteer in various Greek reception camps for asylum seekers. This trip resulted in a new series of poems in the collection 'Under the olive trees of Lesbos'. You can buy this book in our shop. The proceeds go to Because We Carry.
Braeckman shared her experiences about this trip and read some of her poems, dedicated to all refugees in the world. Sven Gatz, then Minister of Culture, also read a poem (in Dutch).
Ann Vermeulen of Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen also came to S.M.A.K. She showed the documentary about the Road Of Change project. During the spring holidays, the organisation travelled with 14 young people and 6 teachers through Europe and visited several refugee camps along the borders of Europe.
