The artistic practice of Dries Boutsen (b. 1993, Hasselt) mainly includes collages and installations. Boutsen creates his collages with paper and leftover material from everyday life, which he collects. Even older works can serve as components for new creations. He deliberately shows traces of use, referring both to himself and the previous owners of the materials. The artist works on his collages over several years, so their external shape often changes. They therefore have no strict orientation either. Not the artist but the curator determines the final way in which Boutsen's collages are installed. Gradually, the tactile collages evolved into three-dimensional objects made of robust materials, such as wood and metal.
The Friends very recently visited the artist's studio, in Belzele (Evergem).
His work is currently on display in the group exhibition Works On Paper at Barbé Gallery in Ghent. Participating artists are; Willem Boel, Dries Boutsen, Stijn Cole, Charlie De Voet, Adelheid De Witte, Gideon Kiefer, Flexboj & L.A., Clément Jacques-Vossen, Thomas Renwart and Joost Pauwaert.
