Together with print studio Topo Copy and the Rode Antraciet, S.M.A.K. organised a project in the prison of Ghent. Under the title Zine Zine Zine, the inmates, together with the artists from Topo Copy, made a magazine that was distributed in the prison and beyond.
The first Zine Zine appeared in early 2021, but due to corona, meetings and workshops became impossible. So Topo Copy communicated via postal packets and this allowed the residents of the Nieuwe Wandeling to get involved. As well as a covering letter, each pack contained blank sketchbooks, two blue ballpoint pens and, for inspiration, 6 prints of reproductions of works of art made with ballpoint pens from the S.M.A.K. collection.
Each package contained reproductions of works by Bart Stolle, Jeff Geys, Mark Manders, Salam Atta Sabri and Sleman Sekar. The specific character of the blue biros was the point of departure for this magazine, a true reproduction of the submitted material the result. A bundle of biros drawings from the free hand.
On 7 October, Zine Zine #2 will be presented in the brand new exhibition space of Ghent production house and animation studio Animal Tank.
