In the Drongenhofkapel you can visit the work of Berlinde De Bruyckere, Dirk Braeckman and Wim Delvoye. On 4 and 5 September 2021 Romeu Runa will give a performance, inspired by the work of Berlinde De Bruyckere.
For his new creation, Portuguese dancer Romeu Runa is inspired by Berlinde De Bruyckere's work 'Honte, 2018-2019', installed in the chapel of Drongenhof in Ghent. In 2015, this dancer performed S.M.A.K.
As part of the exhibition 'Berlinde De Bruyckere. Sculptures & Drawings. 2000 - 2014', the Portuguese dancer Romeu Runa (b. 1978, Cova de Piedade) performed the particularly intense performance 'Romeu My Deer' at S.M.A.K. in 2015.
The project 'Drongenhofkapel' emerged as a predestined coincidence. The purchased work of art 'Honte, 2018-2019' by Berlinde De Bruyckere could not immediately be put in its final place. Instead of leaving it in storage, the wish was to be able to share the work with a larger public. Artist and collector searched together for a place where the work could be exhibited while awaiting its final destination.
This is how they ended up with this late-Gothic gem in this historic neighbourhood of the city: the Drongenhof chapel.
The project 'Drongenhofkapel' brings together works of art from three Ghent artists (Berlinde De Bruyckere, Dirk Braeckman, Wim Delvoye) and will also bring together other art forms in the space. The purity and simplicity of the chapel work as an ispiration.
The project wants to invite other art forms to a dialogue, which can affect the visitor in an intense way in this quiet space.
