On Friday, August 14, our participatory platform S.M.A.K. Moves (S.M.A.K. Beweegt) will be present at the Watou Arts Festival with a Demo-Memo, a project that brings together elderly people with dementia and their caregivers through art.
S.M.A.K. Moves (S.M.A.K. Beweegt) is the museum's participatory platform. For ten years, we have been bringing people and art closer together through projects rooted in doing together, thinking together, and experiencing together.
At the Watou Arts Festival, S.M.A.K. Moves presents Demo-Memo by Bie Hinnekint, a project that brings together elderly people with dementia and their caregivers through art. Under the guidance of Bie Hinnekint, honest, poetic reflections emerge that make their experience visible. Afterwards, Hinnekint will engage in a conversation with De Ambulanten about working with people with dementia.
You can find us in the pavilion Between Pirates and Parrots (Tussen Piraten en Papegaaien) by artist Nico Dockx, VOET Architectuur, and Studio Zuidervaart. This mobile construction was developed in 2023, commissioned by Be-Part (Waregem) to serve as a meeting place. It is a space that constantly evolves alongside everything that happens within it.
