The Colour Blue by Shervin Kianersi Haghighi together with Bart Geerts

until 23.Oct.22
The Colour Blue

On Thursday, 6 October 2022, Shervin Kianersi Haghigi defends her doctoral dissertation in arts at S.M.A.K.: "Lines of Flight. An Investigation of the Value of Invisible Performances and their Social Context" (LUCA / School of Arts). As part of this, Haghigi is exhibiting in Room 1 of S.M.A.K.

The Colour Blue is a collaborative action performed by Shervin Kianersi Haghighi and Bart Geerts. Every Tuesday they send each other an image of a drawing of the colour blue via WhatsApp, following a set of rules:

  • The drawing is created during the week before it is sent.
  • The drawing is done on paper.
  • The qualities (size, thickness, colour, …) of the paper are not specified.
  • The drawings are digitally archived.
  • The actual drawings on paper can be gathered solely for the purpose of an exhibition.
  • The collaboration starts on Tuesday, November 30th, and continues until the drawings are exhibited together.

The Colour Blue is exhibited on the occasion of the doctoral defense of Shervin Kianersi Haghighi. Visitors interested in one pair of the drawings can acquire them for free. At the end of the exhibition, on 23 October 2022, the two artists will sign an agreement and hand over the drawings. For further information, please contact the people at the reception desk of the museum.

Shervin Kianersi Haghighi
lives and works in Brussels. In her work as an artist and researcher, she uses 'invisible performances and actions' to explore the automatized gestures and behaviours we use in our daily routines.

In 2018, she carried out a series of 'invisible performances' at S.M.A.K. that played on the hierarchy that exists between the different museum rooms and the invisible structures that connect them. In this way, she explored how certain actions force the artist and the audience to look at the rooms in a different way and suggest new behavioural patterns to them.

Practical information
  • The exhibition is on view in Room 1, from 6 October 2022 until 23 October 2022.
  • The doctoral defence is at 14:00 in the Auditorium of S.M.A.K.
