S.M.A.K. shows new works of art that entered the museum collection through the Flemish Community following the global pandemic. Museums and artists were unable to display works of art during the lockdown, which left a financial impact. The Flemish Community made up for this loss in 2021 with an injection of 3.75 million euros to purchase artworks by visual artists active today. This simultaneously provided a significant boost to the Flemish contemporary art collection.
Featuring works by Elke Andreas Boon, Dries Boutsen, Ricardo Brey, Manu Engelen, Pélagie Gbaguidi, Hamza Halloubi, Joke Hansen, Emilio Lopez-Menchero, Kurt Ryslavy, Elly Strik, Patrick Vanden Eynde, Koen van den Broek, Guy Van Bossche, Liliane Vertessen, among others. The exhibition runs until November 5, 2023.
