Konrad Klapheck

Year and place of birth: 1935, Düsseldorf, Germany Location: Düsseldorf, Germany

Konrad Klapheck studied at Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he was also a professor from 1979 to 2002. In the 1950s, he created paintings and graphic work in which he depicted everyday technical devices, such as typewriters and sewing machines, telephones and parts of sanitary installations. His subject choice is strongly linked to pop art, but by removing the objects from their context, enlarging them and adding suggestive titles, he bathes the items in an alienating and surreal atmosphere.
