NL - In Klaphecks schilderijen krijgen vertrouwde objecten iets vreemds, soms zelfs iets griezeligs. Dat komt door de uitvergroting en de zakelijke manier waarop de kunstenaar ze schilderde. Zijn koude, objectieve stijl opende de mogelijkheid om voorwerpen te beladen met complexe persoonlijke, emotionele en politieke thema's. In 1955 schilderde Klapheck zijn eerste typemachine. Dit archetype van de moderne cultuur, een rationele machine voor het vastleggen van informatie, werd een motief in zijn oeuvre en stond voor hem symbool voor het patriarchaat.

ENG - In Klapheck’s paintings, familiar objects were imbued with something strange, sometimes even macabre. This is due to their enlargement and the business-like way in which they were painted. His cold, objective style opened up the possibility of charging objects with complex personal, emotional and political themes. Klapheck painted his first typewriter in 1955. He viewed this archetype of modern culture – a rational machine for recording information – as a symbol for the patriarchy. It henceforth became a motif in his oeuvre.
