From 30 May 2026, S.M.A.K. will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Chambres d’Amis, the groundbreaking exhibition with which Jan Hoet put Ghent on the map in the international art world in 1986. Instead of within the museum’s walls, contemporary art was presented at the time in private homes scattered throughout the city.
Have your B&B paired with a S.M.A.K. artwork
Following in the footsteps of Chambres d’Amis, which brought art closer to the public, S.M.A.K. is calling on Ghent B&Bs to apply to host a work of art from the S.M.A.K. collection in their ‘Chambre d’amis’ during the summer months (from June to September).
Based on a short questionnaire, the S.M.A.K. team will select the participating B&Bs and seek the perfect match between the B&B and a unique artwork from the museum collection.
Conditions?
- The artwork can only be placed in a communal area of the Bed & Breakfast, such as the reception, breakfast room or shared lounge;
- Participation is open only to Bed & Breakfasts located in Ghent and its boroughs;
- S.M.A.K. will provide promotional material for the exhibition and a label for the artwork;
- S.M.A.K. is permitted to communicate about the project and use images of the B&B.
How do you apply?
Please complete the form below by 30 April 2026, including:
- A brief explanation of why you would like to host a work from the S.M.A.K. collection in your B&B and how your B&B stands out from others;
- Upload a video with a 360° view of the space so that the S.M.A.K. team can assess the size of the room and the lighting;
- A wishlist of the artwork so that our team can make the right match.
