Out and about with our Art Handlers

SMAK PAP Transport 08

Preparations for the upcoming exhibition ‘Painting After Painting - A Contemporary Survey from Belgium’ are in full swing. One of the tasks of our art handlers is to safely transport the artworks from the studios, galleries and lenders to S.M.A.K. In this photo series, we join colleagues Charlie and Marek to collect the works of Charlotte Vandenbroucke, Joëlle Dubois, Charline Tyberghein and Bram Demunter for transport.

The four works – Mirnoir, Cut to the Core, Obitchuary and The Purple Carpet – were carefully packed last week – either in bubble wrap or exactly according to the artist's instructions. Once loaded into the S.M.A.K. van, we drive from the various locations to S.M.A.K.

What's next? Once at the museum, the condition check awaits, where each work is inspected one by one for damage. After a visit to the photo studio for documentation, they are truly ready for their place in the exhibition.

You will discover Mirnoir, Cut to the Core, Obitchuary and The Purple Carpet, and other works by more than 70 painters from 4 April 1925 in the major retrospective Painting After Painting.
