During this practical conversation, participants will explore the tension between an institution's professional conservation mandate and the call for shared ownership. This involves questions such as:
- Who decides what we collect and preserve?
- Who makes the decisions (the organisation or the community, and on whose behalf do they speak)?
- What if a community's interests clash with the collection policy?
- Who bears the risk when a participatory process creates friction or fails?
- How can we integrate participation into the structural processes of heritage organisations?
During the session, the issue of authority will also be explored by mapping out cases and dilemmas together. We will discuss how to further reflect on shared authority. This trajectory will continue in the autumn of 2026, when a joint vision on this issue will be formulated during a two-day event.Beforehand, participants will visit the exhibition S.M.A.K. Beweegt, as it serves as the catalyst for this process.
