Together - Collaborative Art Practices
Until 8 September, discover some 30 works from the collection that were created by artistic collaborations.
In the realm of visual arts, collaboration has often taken a back seat to the romanticized notion of the individual artistic genius. From the Collection: Together - Collaborative Art Practices aims to challenge the myth of the solitary artist and explore the unique dynamics of collective creativity and how it influences artistic production.

Private Passion X Public Duty. Hoet & Matthys-Colle: Through Collectors' Eyes
The collector's eye is at the heart of this new collection exhibition, which you can visit until 5 January 2025.
Ten years after the death of Jan Hoet (1936-2014), the founder of S.M.A.K., this exhibition explores the similarities and differences between Hoet’s acquisition policy and the works purchased by the husband-and-wife collectors, Roger and Hilda Matthys-Colle. Private Passion X Public Duty: Hoet & Matthys-Colle brings together artists who occupy an important place in the museum's history.
On the upper floor, an archive exhibition takes a closer look at the Matthys-Colle Collection and the figure of Jan Hoet.
In the Friends of S.M.A.K. room, you can discover a selection of the editions published by the V.M.H.K. by artists who are (or were) represented in the Matthys-Colle Collection.
