The Aeromodeller (1969-1971) is without a doubt Panamarenko’s most legendary artwork. In the autumn of 1969, the Belgian artist built the monumental airship entirely by himself. It was made from flexible PVC, a material that Panamarenko consciously chose for its unique properties. Today, that very choice poses a major challenge. Due to the test of time, the PVC has become highly fragile: it discolours, deforms, and tears increasingly easily. As a result, the artwork is becoming more and more difficult to preserve and display. With a restoration, we can ensure that The Aeromodeller can fly far once again and inspire generations to dream.
