'Van hier tot daar' shows drawings of refugees in Belgium. With pencil and paper S.M.A.K. went to reception centres in Maximiliaanpark, Poelkapelle, Sijsele, Koksijde, Leopoldsburg and Holsbeek and invited the residents to draw. The results are surprising and vulnerable, sometimes cruel but above all recognisable. From war, risky boat trips and profound human sorrow, over football and flowers to small happiness. Where words fail, visual language proves its universal power. After Traces of Survival (2015), with drawings by residents of refugee camps in Iraq, with this new book S.M.A.K. once again wants to contribute to the debate and image creation around refugees. Published by S.M.A.K. and Mercatorfonds. With texts by Philippe van Cauteren, Rudi Vranckx and Prof. Dr. Philippe Vandekerckhove. All income from the sale of this book goes to the Red Cross for the development of artistic projects in the camps. This publication is a collaboration between S.M.A.K., Mercatorfonds and the Rode Kruis Vlaanderen. With the support of Fedasil and Engie Electrabel.
