Adam Leech has been a resident artist at S.M.A.K. since 2020. On Sunday 3 October he will talk about this artistic trajectory, the result of which can currently be seen in the exhibition The Guide.

Via a new video work and a series of paintings, the exhibition offers a fascinating exploration of human consciousness in relation to the museum's location. Together with curator Tanja Boon, the artist discusses the reading, conversations and artistic production that framed his residency, and more specifically his research into the perception of the museum visitor.

During his residency he created an artistic framework in which conversations were held with museum staff and visitors. These conversations fed his exploration of the human mind and the way it produces experiences, relationships and emotions. He speculatively linked his findings to scientific thesis, empirical findings and psychology.

During his residency, Leech also created an unconventional visitor's guide in the form of a series of YouTube tutorials and developed a psychological experiment on the museum experience in collaboration with the faculty of Psychological Sciences at Ghent University.
