Book launch: ‘The Dollhouse’ by Mae Dessauvage

6.Nov.25
The dollhouse 01

During Late Thursday on 6 November, artist Mae Dessauvage (part of the exhibition “Painting After Painting”) will present the publication “The Dollhouse”, followed by a conversation with Professor Patrick Van Rossem (Art Historian, Utrecht University).

‘The Dollhouse’ documents Mae Dessauvage’s recent paintings and sculptures from 2023 to 2025. Her works featuring houses – inhabited by introverted, cartoonish figures – reinterpret the relationship between the body and the architectural framework. Inspired by medieval altarpieces and contemporary manga, these shaped panels unfold as intimate, spatial narratives. Her androgynous figures are reminiscent of both devotional icons and anime characters, redefining the “doll” as a symbol of the transfeminine experience.

The publication is part of Blurring Books' new series of publications, Slim Limited Publications. Afterwards, you can purchase the book in the S.M.A.K. bookshop and have it signed by the artist.
