Follow our guide in HELL ON EARTH and support The Warmest Week!
The least you can say of hell is that it's probably warm. Warm it is this winter too in S.M.A.K.'s largest exhibition hall, which includes 18 spectacularly coloured stained-glass windows, golden woodcuts on floor-to-ceiling black canvases, and candles everywhere. Joris Van de Moortel shows a lot.
One striking figure that recurs in the exhibition is the Nobody. He is the archetype of the ‘madman’, the ‘fool’ or the ‘jester’. His mouth is sealed by a lock and he lives as an outcast. How do you feel when your voice is not heard or nobody understands your language? A S.M.A.K. guide will lead you through the many layers in HELL ON EARTH in this tour, focusing on themes of social isolation and loneliness in the artist's work.
All proceeds from this activity will go to the Warmest Week, which this year is dedicated to loneliness.
