Conversation on the visual essay à la rencontre de l'intensité - the inner/outer world by Philippe Van Snick

22.Jan.23
Visueel essay Philippe Van Snick 4

On Sunday 22 January, we will hold a conversation with Marijke Dekeukeleire, Benedicte Goesaert and Griet Teck on the visual essay linked to Philippe Van Snick's exhibition. The moderator is Els Roelandt.

When an artist dies, questions arise about the material but also the immaterial artistic legacy. What traces in the artist's studio and immediate environment remain visible upon his death? What knowledge is contained therein and how can it be made available to a wider audience?

A la rencontre de l'intensité arose from the desire to make visible the traces associated with the moment before or after Philippe Van Snick's artistic creation. Images of his studio in Brussels are interspersed with views of his garden, personal living space and remote Le Bos Nord in France.

For a year and a half, Marijke Dekeukeleire, Benedicte Goesaert and filmmaker Griet Teck worked together on this project.

In the grieving process after the artist's death, the making of this cinematic document and the reflection on a sustainable management of the artistic legacy took a constructive place. Besides her role as partner and mother, Marijke Dekeukeleire also bears responsibility for the future of Philippe Van Snick's oeuvre. To this end, she works together with Benedicte Goesaert, who assumes the role of artistic manager.
