On Thursday 6 February 2025, S.M.A.K. and the other Ghent museums will keep their doors open until 22:00. Come along for an evening visit to the ongoing exhibitions, a concert by Sara Salvérius & Jean-Philippe Poncin and a bite to eat at the Wilde Weide.
We take you through the world of modern alchemist Joris Van de Moortel in HELL ON EARTH, in search of PUR, NUR and FUR.
In this tour, our S.M.A.K. guide Zoë will lead you through the many layers of the exhibition, focusing on themes of social isolation and loneliness in the artist's work.
In a second tour, a S.M.A.K. guide will also take you through the other exhibitions. The focus here is on the exhibitions on the first floor: Joris Van de Moortel HELL ON EARTH, Walker Series by Tsai Ming-liang and the collection exhibitions PRESENTS and Together.

At the request of Klarafestival 2024, Sara Salvérius spent a week in an assisted living centre in Brussels. During this period, immersed in the reality of the fourth age, she took the time to talk to the residents and listen to their stories, allowing her to gain inspiration for a new musical creation. The result was presented during a tour of several Brussels care homes, in collaboration with clarinettist Jean-Philippe Poncin, and brings them to the entrance hall of S.M.A.K. on Late Thursday.
The compositions reflect highly evocative and diverse musical impressions: some passages are imbued with melancholy and meditation, while others are energetic and rhythmic. Together, they weave a story without words. The intimacy of the compositions fosters an authentic emotional exchange, where emotion narrates and provides deep understanding, while also serving as testimony and connection between different communities and generations.
